“This is a really amazing program and place full of good people, all with the same goal of helping young children grow. Every child in every group I had was so vastly different. Some were social and outgoing while others were shy and a bit quiet. It really is like a box of crayons, everyone is a different shade and no two are the same. Getting attached to the kids I was assigned to was inevitable. Through ups and downs, I am so glad I applied and joined this big massive team.”

Interview FAQs

Hireflix is a one-way video interview platform.  You will be provided with a unique link to access your interview. This means you will record yourself (video and audio) answering interview questions.  Our team will then be able to watch your video and review your answers.

  • You can take as much time as you need to prepare before recording your answer.
  • You can save your progress and come back later to finish your interview.
  • You can review your video answers and re-record them until you are satisfied.  We highly recommend taking advantage of this feature.  Please review your answers to make sure your video and audio worked before submitting.
  • Although in a real tutoring session you will have the ability to share your screen or use digital tools, this is not an option on the Hireflix platform. Although not necessary, if you would like to prepare digital tools to use, you can utilize a second screen (phone, iPad, etc.) and hold it up to the camera.

In order to complete your interview you will need access to the computer/laptop you would be using for tutoring sessions. As a reminder iPads, tablets, and chromebooks will not work for this role. If you record your interview using your phone we will not move you forward in the hiring process. You will also need to ensure you have access to video and audio recording capabilities on your computer/laptop. Although not required, you may want to utilize a whiteboard, notecards, post-its or other household items to assist you when completing the sample lesson. Please do not feel like you need to go out and purchase anything for this interview!

Please record your video in the space you would use for tutoring sessions.  This space should be quiet, child-friendly, and professional. You should not conduct the interview in places like cars, bathrooms, couches/beds, etc. You should be in a private space clear of people or pets in the background.

We recommend candidates dress as if they would when tutoring.  This means that you should appear neat and professional with attire that is appropriate for an educational environment. We recommend avoiding any attire that might be offensive or inappropriate in a teaching environment.

The interview consists of four questions, one of these questions asks you to teach a sample lesson.  We recommend spending some time before the interview reviewing the questions and sample lesson. You can access the sample lesson here. Feel free to spend some time practicing how you might teach the sample lesson to students.  The lessons are scripted and designed to be followed from start to finish. You are provided with 5 minutes to teach the sample lesson and you should plan on filling that time.  If you finish the lesson early, there are challenge and support opportunities on the side that you can use to extend the lesson.

During the sample lesson portion of the interview you will be pretending to teach students.  We know this can be awkward for some people! You are welcome to have a family member or friend play the role of a student but this is not necessary.  You can simply act as if a student or group of students are on the other side of the screen when giving the lesson.

When reviewing your interview submission our team is looking for the knowledge, skills, and qualities that we have found make a great virtual tutor. This includes the following key areas:

  1. Technology Skills: We will be looking to ensure you have the technology equipment and skills needed to navigate our platforms and present lessons in a virtual environment.
  2. Personable: We will be looking to see if you present a friendly and engaging demeanor in order to build relationships with students and keep them on task.
  3.  Instructional Aptitude: We will be looking to see if you have the ability to provide clear instructions and explanations during a lesson and that you can make academic corrections when needed.
  4. Subject-Matter Knowledge:  We will be looking to ensure you have a baseline level of knowledge for the academic subject you are tutoring.

Offer & Onboarding

After passing the final interview, you will receive an offer from our third-party staffing agency through email.  Be sure to check your spam folder.  Please follow these instructions carefully in order to accept the offer, complete all required paperwork, and begin the fingerprinting process.

As part of the onboarding you will need to do the following:

  • Accept the Offer
  • Complete any state-mandated trainings
  • Complete the I9 paperwork
  • Complete the Pre-Employment Screening

Offer & Onboarding FAQs

The start date listed in your offer allows us to begin setting up your Amplify accounts and training, it does not reflect an actual working start date.  You will not begin tutoring on this date and you are not required to log in or begin training on this date.  Once we receive notification from TCW that you are cleared we will send you information on how to set up and login to your Amplify email. You will then be enrolled in your Amplify University training. Account set up and the majority of your training can be done at your own pace and preferred time.

Remote workers in the following states are required to complete a mandated sexual harassment training: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, and New York.  If you are a remote worker in any of those states, you will receive an email notification from the staffing agencies training platform to complete the state-required training by the specified deadline. The training should take approximately 1 hour to complete.

An I-9 form, officially known as the Employment Eligibility Verification, is a U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) document. Employers use this form to verify the identity and employment authorization of individuals they hire for employment in the United States.

You will be able to complete your portion of this form online.  You will then be asked to provide the email of someone who can verify your identity and required documents.  You will then need to have your identified party complete their portion of the form verifying your identity and eligibility to work.

As part of the onboarding process, the staffing agency will conduct a national background check using your name and information.  This is used to identify any criminal charges you may have that would prevent you from accepting this role.

Please note:  This is only a preliminary check, once hired you will still need to complete a full FBI and/or state level check which requires your fingerprints be taken.  You can find out more about fingerprinting below. You cannot begin tutoring children until your fingerprints have been cleared.

It is highly recommended that you complete your portions of onboarding within 48 hours of receiving your offer.  There can be delays in obtaining your pre-employment screening and I9 verification.   The sooner you complete your portions of this process the quicker we can get you started in your role.

Fingerprinting

Amplify works with schools across the country.  Each state has their own unique requirements for tutors before they can begin working with students.  Once you are matched with a state engagement you will be provided with instructions on how to be cleared to work with students in that state.  This will require you to complete a background check involving fingerprints. These clearances can often take several weeks to be process by the state or school district.  You cannot begin tutoring until your background checks have cleared. Due to this it is extremely important that you complete the fingerprinting as soon as possible.

Fingerprinting FAQs

You must be fingerprinted for your assigned state, this may not be the state you live in. Most states require you to redo your fingerprinting under Amplify even if you have had fingerprinting done previously.  If you have a hardcopy letter stating you are cleared by your assigned tutoring state or you are a current licensed teacher within your assigned state, please reach out to tutorhiring@amplify.com to check whether we can accept these.

Most states require the tutor to pay some upfront costs in order to take and process your fingerprints. Amplify will reimburse you for these costs, please hold onto all receipts.

Amplify Account Setup & Training

Once our staffing partner has completed their portion of onboarding, the Amplify IT team will send you instructions to set up your Amplify email and accounts.  You will then have access to Amplify University, our learning platform.  Amplify University will walk you through around 20 hours of paid training in order to prepare you to be a tutor.

The majority of your training will be asynchronous, meaning you can log in and work through it at your own pace. However, there are several live touch points that you will have to complete throughout the training. You will have a variety of days and times to choose from when attending a live touchpoint so you can ensure it works with your schedule.

Each module you work through will have a quiz that you need to pass in order to move on with your training.

After passing your training and obtaining state fingerprinting clearances you will be able to be matched with tutoring opportunities!
